I wanted to expand on my thought yesterday about my spiritual journey and Trusting God’s plan … because I want to explain something that I hope will be helpful for you.

I mentioned that I want to help children of divorce because I know how painful it is to be one. Having said that, I want to share with you that I would never, ever change my parent’s divorce … even though it affected me to the core …  even though it hurt like hell …

Even though I calculate all my life experiences around that point in time. Whenever someone asks me a question about how old I was when a certain event happened in my childhood, I start my calculations at 10 and work forward or backward. “Let me think. Was that before the divorce or after the divorce...”

Or when someone tells me their child is 8-years-old and I want to calculate what grade they are in, I think, “O.K., my parents got divorced when I was 10 years old, and I was in 5th grade, so an 8-year-old must be in 3rd grade.”

Make no mistake. It was devastating.

So, why would I not change it? Because of the many, many, many gifts I have received as a result of it. OMG! Where do I begin? Here are just a couple …
  • My step-mother and her entire family, my step-brother, my ½ sister. (I am using technical terms for clarity here, but we do not differentiate between step and biological in our house). I can not imagine my life without these people.
  • My relationships with all of my family members.
  • My strong relationship with my mother.
  • My independence as a person.
  • My perspective on life.
  • My compassionate heart that feels pain for others.
  • My deep passion for my family and the concept of family.
  • My desire to help other families stay together.

I am sharing this with you, because I know you have been through hard times, too. Or maybe you’re going through one now.

I believe, the way to get through these times is to lean on God and trust Him. To look for the gifts. To look for God. When you can see these things, you can find beauty in every situation. I promise! It's a great perspective to have on life!

Come on!! Come with me and let's find the beauty in life together!
