Consider this quote from John Gottman: Hollywood has distorted our notions of romance and what makes passion sizzle. Watching Humphrey Bogart gather teary-eyed Ingrid Bergman into his arms may make your heart pound, but real-life romance is fueled by far more humdrum scenes. It is kept alive each time you let your spouse know he or she is valued during the grind of everyday life.
Yes, friends! "The grind of everyday life" can have romance! It needs romance! It just doesn't look the way the movies portray it.
What might it look like?
--Greeting your spouse when they come home from work with a hug or a kiss.
--Stopping what you are doing and looking them in the eye when they speak to you.
--Being genuinely interested in their day.
--Making them their favorite dinner.
--Giving them a back rub after a hard day.
--Sending a text letting them know you are thinking about them while they are at work.
--Running an errand for them.
None of these are hot, steamy romance, but they build trust and love and real-life passion...and could lead to it!
