Oh boy. Did our family have a good laugh over something I did yesterday.
You see, my dear daughter encouraged our family to go to reconciliation to prepare our hearts for Jesus. This is the second year in a row. We oblige her, because it is the right thing to do, and because it feels good.
Well, as we sat around last night talking about our experience, it came to light that I knelt on the kneeler behind the screen instead of sitting in the chair to talk to the priest face-to-face.
OMG! Paul, Tyler and Alyssa were laughing hysterically! I didn't understand.
Unlike the three of them, I have never had proper reconciliation instruction. But I am a smart cookie, so I noticed, when I walked into the room, that there is a kneeler with the screen, and the priest is sitting behind it. I promptly and reverently assumed my place on the kneeler behind the screen. Wasn't that what I was supposed to do? Isn't that how everyone does it?
Father graciously led me through the conversation, and it was really beautiful and moving and healing.
Now here I am finding out I did it wrong! LOL!
Through their laughter, my children told me the screen is for people who want to remain anonymous or are confessing a mortal sin.
Well, I most certainly wasn't confessing a mortal sin! Maybe that's why Father was quiet for a moment after my confession......he was waiting for the kicker!
And I surely wasn't anonymous -- I was the third member of my family to go in there. I even addressed the priest by name. LOL!
I saw Father again this morning and shared this with him. He was laughing pretty good about it too! He said he thought it was a little strange, especially, because we were there as a family and I called him by name ... but he wasn't sure if he should invite me over to the chair or not! Leave it to me! Glad to provide some comedic relief!
Hope this gave you a good little laugh! It did us!
