I had the honor of presenting to the South Park Church MOPS group today about communication in marriage. (They are mothers of preschoolers, in case you didn't know the acronym.) It really is an honor to speak to these women. Such a beautiful group of smart, loving, giving women. I am so grateful for the opportunity to share my story with them.
We focused on the issue of communicating with respect and appreciation in marriage. This is such an important aspect of marriage. I, personally, have learned so much about it in my own marriage. Well-intentioned words and actions on my part led to resentment building on his part. I am not alone in this issue.
Only 1 in 4 men feels appreciated in his home. And 44% feel UNAPPRECIATED. Ladies, this is huge. We need to do better. The problem is we don't realize how we are making our husband's feel unappreciated.
My talk was based on the book For Women Only by Shaunti Feldhahn. It sheds light on the issues of respect and appreciation in marriage. I highly recommend this book to every woman who is married. There is also a book for your husband to read, by Shaunti. It is called For Men Only. Would be a great little book club to do with your spouse. To open the lines of communication and learn what each of you needs to feel loved and respected.
