Successful People do Whatever it Takes to get the Job Done

I'm reading The Slight Edge with a few fellow coaches right now and loving it. So practical and helpful. I would love to share this story about how it's even helping me form my children.

A quote in the book says, "Successful people do whatever it takes to get the job done, whether or not they feel like it."

One of my children got a low grade on a test this week.

This child blamed the teacher for teaching too fast. But admitted to not understanding a couple of concepts.

"Why did you not ask for help?" I asked. "I didn't think I had time," child replied.

I said, "It is not OK to blame the teacher and sit back as the victim because 'she taught too fast.' We are resourceful people. We live in a resourceful time. We do not put our fate in the hands of others. If you want a good grade, you have to do whatever it takes to get it. This is a life lesson. Throughout your entire life you are going to come across people who will fail you. But you can't sit back and be the victim. You have to take responsibility for yourself."

You may ask why I made such a big deal out of one test grade? It is for this reason ... "Successful people form habits that feed their success, instead of habits that feed their failure." I want my children to learn habits of success from a young age.

When I was finished speaking, the other child who was not getting this lesson replied, "The Gospel of Mommy." LOL! Yup. Proud of it! I give my best sermons in the car .... after all that is where I spend most of my time!
