Last night Alyssa was too tired to study for her science quiz today. So, she decided she would study this morning in the car after we dropped Tyler off at band. This was a good plan. Her mind would be refreshed and we have 30 minutes free after dropping him off.
Well, as luck would have it, her morning got rushed, and Alyssa forgot to bring her science book in the car.
She remembered about half-way to school. I had a decision to make. Turn around and make Tyler late or just keep going. I kept going. I didn't think it was fair to make Tyler late.
Then once we arrived at school, I could have easily driven the 30 minutes round trip to get her book. She could have still studied in the car. I thought about it, but I didn't do it.
Honestly, she has been quite forgetful lately. She forgot her dance bag last week, and I did have to go all the way back to get it. I think she needs to learn that mom is not going to be able to come to her rescue all the time.
I felt guilty that I didn't do it, because I could have. But I'm praying she still does well and that she will be more attentive to preparing her things in the future.
How do you handle these situations with your children?
